Future

"AND" or "AND" gel that we made can transit into sol by reacting only with input strands. In the future, we hope to make a high-precision sensor system using the sensing abilities DNA hydrogels have against the extensive environmental condition; such as temperature, photon, pH, and pressure. If we can equip FRET and molecular beacons on our gel, we can also make them change color when pH changes, using it as an indicator like phenolphthalein and methyl orange. Furthermore, the fact that the pH is different around cancer cells we can diagnose cancer quickly using this gel as it is sensitive to pH change.

If we connect the gels together and use multiple gels, we can cause a chain reaction like a domino. This way, we can expect to cause a signal transition as an imitation of human neurotransmission. We can also apply this gel in the field of molecular robotics by adding this gel on a molecular robot’s skin surface, functioning as a sensor device that causes reaction in response to the stimulus outside. Using this autonomous robot, we can deliver medicine enclosed in the gel and release at a certain situation, such as when an overexpression of mRNA occurs.

Since the gel has very simple properties; it releases a strand triggered by a stimulus from outside; we can expect this gel to play an active role in lots of situations by reinforcing its responsiveness or by giving them characteristics like fluorescence emission in certain conditions.
